چکیده

Optimal building ventilation control is achieved combining demand controlled ventilation (DCV) and economizer control. The control instability during the transition processes between different control modes is among the major difficulties faced when combining DCV control with economizer control in applications. A robust control strategy, using “freezing”, gain scheduling, I-term reset and feedback transition control for different transition processes, is developed addressing the instability problems. The significant energy benefit of using economizer control can be achieved as indicated by over one year’s comparison tests on two air-handling units (AHUs) in a building. Copyright © 2005 IFAC

Design and operation optimization of an air conditioning system through simulation: an hour-by-hour simulation study

In the present research, performance validation of a Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system operating in a library building was conducted. The operating HVAC system was studied in terms of the provided indoor air conditions and energy consumption level. The fieldwork measurements showed that the HVAC system is not capable of providing the desired indoor air conditions based on...

Robust Reserve Provision by Commercial Buildings Considering Energy-Constrained Frequency Signals

It has been shown that the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems of commercial buildings can offer ancillary services to power systems due to their large thermal inertia. In this paper, we propose a new control framework for scheduling and provision of frequency reserves by commercial building aggregations. The framework builds on a hierarchical control scheme: first, the re...

Decentralized Optimization for Energy Saving of HVAC Systems

Improving the control strategy of building HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning) systems can lead to significant energy savings while preserving human comfort requirements. This paper formulates the optimization problem to obtain the setpoints of control variables with the lowest HVAC system energy consumption. The optimization problem is nonlinear, strongly coupled, and has both di...

Adaptive HVAC zone modeling for sustainable buildings

Control of energy flows within a building is critical to achieving optimal performance of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. To design optimal HVAC control strategies, a dynamic model of the HVAC system – particularly the building zones that it services – is essential. As analysis of building energy consumption is facilitated by the accurate prediction of indoor environme...
